Overview: Entering the 2008-09 season, many viewed the Dallas Stars as contenders. A solid lineup all the way threw, it was decimated by injuries last season, guiding the Stars to a 12th place finish in the west. The Stars have a quality group of forwards, with Mike Ribeiro and Brad Richards leading, and have a supporting cast that includes Mike Modano and Loui Eriksson, who had a breakout season last year scoring 36 goals. This group will score a lot if they can stay healthy for the entire season and produce similar to last year. The Defense is anchored by all-star Stephane Robidas and Matt Niskanen. The rest is solid with Karlis Skrastins, Trevor Daley, Jeff Woywitka and Mark Fistric adding depth and grit. Marty Turco remains the Stars star in net, backed up by Tobias Stephan. The Dallas Stars have a solid lineup filled with young talent and seasoned veterans, but had health issues last season. If they stay healthy this season, they should contend for the division title and maybe the Stanley Cup.
Winners or losers?: The Dallas Stars were winners this offseason. They added depth at defense and kept the overall look of the attack the same. They could have added a backup goalie though, a proven one, to give Marty Turco some support, as he aging and can do with some days off.
